This is a story about Jessie and her first grown up party. Well, okay, I'm lying. You see Jessie (she might look familiar to those of you who frequent my blog because I did a shoot with her family a couple of months ago) threw a 40th birthday party for her wonderful husband, Steve. Steve told me that his friend was bugging him saying he had no friends so who was going to show up. He very calmly and truthfully replied--don't worry my wife has lots of friends. Well, Steve...her friends are also your friends(at least our husbands are--right? if not by choice by circumstance). But, this entry is not about Steve. It is about Jessie's friends. Okay...I lied again. It's about my friends. My mom's group to be exact. You see...I have the greatest mom's group. Most of us met in prenatal yoga when our now mostly 5 year olds were still in our bellies. And, look at us--we still have a blast! So, there are no photos of Steve in this post...sorry Steve...but they are photos from your party.
I'll talk a bit about the party. The food was amazing. Tasted amazing and presented amazing. Just plain amazing. And there was this tent in the backyard with bartenders and booze! And bar tables with black table cloths everywhere. And little white chairs. Man...this was a little too grown up for most of us I think. It was awesome!

The totally rocking cheese tray.

Little tiny hamburgers on little tiny biscuits. There had to be beef--it's Alberta, man!

So, this is the first mom(aside from Jessie) in my mom's group. I know what you are all thinking. Wait a minute....that's a guy. Yes, it is--how very observant of you. But our friends, Kim and Baruch are very much co-parents and so Baruch is often the parent that comes to our outings. We have dubbed him an honourary mom. It's great to have a juggler for a husband when you are in medical school(and now a brilliant doctor).

And, this is the brilliant doctor in our group...Kim. Baruch's husband. Just kidding. She really is the mom. And how totally cool is she? That is a t-shirt she bought at a Corey Hart concert when she was in junior high. I had the same shirt at one point in my life! I wonder if it is in a box at my parent's house? That's where Kim found it(in a closet at her dad's house). Speaking of cool t-shirts...

This is Baruch and Kim's son, Isaac, and the coolest t-shirt ever.

This is CJ. Mom to Megan. Accountant extraordinaire. Singer extraordinaire. Looking so grown up. Man, how come you don't dress like that at the park? Those are some happening shoes.

This is Megan. She smiles so hard and big that her eyes actually shut! I had to tell her to keep her eyes open ;) When she was a baby, she had sooooo much hair. Some babies have all the luck!

And, this is Mona(in the blue dress)...sorry it's not the best picture of everyone else, but doesn't Mona look pretty? She is an engineer. Aren't we an educated bunch? There is a rumor that the goodlooking fellow beside her used to be involved in the breakdance wars in Montreal. They called him Pop Tart. Not enough beer was had that night as he never broke out in to dance.

And, this is Jocelyn. Somehow an appropriate shot of her. Just kidding. Sort of. She was my friend before I was married. Can you imagine? She was also my boss. Yikes! It makes perfect sense because she is a little bossy---ooohhh, just kidding. My mom is just wondering how two bossy gals like us stayed friends. She's also very competitive. She is bugging me to join their golf group. I keep threatening to show up wearing a hockey jersey. She says she doesn't mind and that the group isn't competitive they're just there to have fun. Well, except for CJ...so she says, but secretly I know that she is trying to convince me to go so that I make her game look good. Her husband once banned her from playing Cranium. You get the idea. Oh! And she is a fabulous interior designer(if ya need one--call me, I'll give you her number).
So, that was Jessie's grown up party. Well, those were the best shots of each of us who attended(Leeann was missing in action). A great group of gals who are wonderful listeners, advice givers, playdate throwers, and moms. Who knew when Joce and I asked the yoga class if anyone wanted to go for coffee that we would be soooo lucky? Happy Birthday Steve.
